Time Tested Success: 1970’s – 1990’s

1970's: Neighborhood shopping center and community development continues in Washington metro area and the Carl M. Freeman Foundation continues to support dozens of non-profits throughout the Mid-Atlantic region
1971: Carl M. Freeman begins to implement vision of beachfront tennis community to become Sea Colony in Bethany Beach, Delaware
1972: Van Dorn Plaza community shopping center begins development in Alexandria, Virginia
1972: Sea Colony welcomes first homeowners to the beautiful beach and tennis community
1974: Sea Colony tennis program features teaching professional Jimmy Connors, then ranked #1 in the world
1980's: Sea Colony Development continues and adds Fitness Center and additional homes
1983: The first Sea Colony Make-A-Wish triathlon is held in Bethany Beach, Delaware
1988: Carl M. Freeman's conservative approach enables Carl M. Freeman Associates to weather the turbulent economy; Company capitalizes on Resolution Trust Act
1990's: Sea Colony Development continues to include amenities including walking paths, pools and tennis courts
1992: Carl M. Freeman becomes Chairman of the Board, and Joshua M. Freeman is named President of Carl M. Freeman Companies; Joshua M. Freeman begins to build new visionary team
1995: Development and sales begin at The Cove, a private marina community in North Bethany Beach, Delaware
1996: Ashburn Town Square is built in Ashburn, Virginia
1996: Delaware Governor's Greensaver Award honors Sea Colony for its role in helping preserve the natural environment of the Delaware coast
1997: Marketplace community shopping center at Sea Colony opens and provides gathering place for Sea Colony homeowners and guests
1997: Great Falls Center in Great Falls, Virginia, is acquired and two-year redevelopment begins
1998: Rock Creek Village Shopping Center is acquired in Rockville, Maryland
1998: Fairfax Junction is acquired and renovations to the shopping center in Fairfax, Virginia begin
1998: Bear Trap Dunes Golf Club groundbreaking event is held in Ocean View, Delaware
1998: Planning begins for The Village at Bear Trap Dunes
1998: Sea Colony service companies are acquired by public company ResortQuest International in IPO; Joshua M. Freeman is elected to RQI Board of Directors
1999: Olney Village Mart in Olney, Maryland is acquired
1999: Tribute for the late Mr. Carl M. Freeman is held at the Kennedy Center, with support from The National Symphony Orchestra, The Washington Opera and The Washington Choral Arts Society
1999: The company conducts research and planning for Americana Bayside
1999: Carl M. Freeman Foundation continues to support community philanthropies with generous gift to The Olney Boys & Girls Club, allowing for the development of new athletic facilities
1999: First home sold at The Village at Bear Trap Dunes
